“No matter how much you pray, nothing will change What changes this moment is the determination to fight” “Those that can accomplish their goal Are those that can discard for their goal” “Didn’t the birds break out of their egg shell in order to fly, not to crawl on the ground pathetically? For what reason do you possess those wings? Isn’t the sky in the birdcage a little too tiny“ ============================================================================ WARNING. In other words, spoilers alert! Attack on Titan is a 2013 anime adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s manga series. The story is set in an imaginary world where humanity is cornered by an overwhelming predator/enemy–the “Titans”(or :Eotans). The Titans are creatures of enormous size and power. Even worse, they have the ability to regenerate itself under sunlight. Their only weakness is the area behind their neck. Desperate and despaired, humans built three walls: Wall of Maria, Wall of Rose, and Wall of Sina to protect themselves from the invasion of Titans. After having 100 years of peace, a major incident occurred in year 845(note: the timeline is made up by the author in the story). A 60-meter tall Titan appeared out of nowhere right in front of Wall of Maria(taller than the 50-meter Wall) and brought an army of Titans. What’s worse than so, an Armoured Titan followed along and broke through the gate with mere force, allowing all the titans to enter the Wall and devour the citizens. The protagonist of the story, Eren Jaeger, also got his own mother eaten by a Titan. At that day, Eren swore to eliminate all Titans in the world in order to revenge. The Mega Titan… Armoured Titan Eren’s mother being killed The major characters in the story shall be introduced: Eren Jaeger: The story’s protagonist. His father is an authorized scientist who studies the Titans. Eren dreams to explore the world outside the Wall ever since he was a child. He has a very strong will and always speaks out against what’s wrong and ridiculous. Having witnessed his mother’s horrible slaughter by the Titans in year 845, Eren is determined to fight the Titans and exterminate every single one of them by his own hands. Eren has a very strong will that allows him to overcome his physical limit and challenge the dangers. Quotes: “From the moment we’re born, all of us are free. Those who deny it, no matter how strong they are, have nothing to do with it. The fiery waters, or the lands of ice, it really doesn’t matter which… those who’ve seen them have gained the greatest freedom in the world.” “”If you lose, you die. If you win, you live. If you don’t fight, you can’t win!”” Mikasa Ackherman: The story’s heroine. Eren’s childhood friend and family member. She values Eren more important than anything else the the world. As an orphan, Mikasa was adopted by the Jaeger family. During the Year 845 Titan invasion of Wall Maria, the Jaegar’s was brutally destroyed. With Eren’s mother devoured and the father vanished, Eren becomes Mikasa’s only family member left. Mikasa is a mighty warrior who can stand against mant Titans by herself. However, when it comes to Eren, she loses her cool and acts recklessly. Quotes: “The world is merciless, but also very beautiful.” “You don’t stand a single chance to win, unless you fight.” Armin Arlert: A childhood friend with Eren and Mikasa who also suffers great losses from the Titans. Though Armin is physically weak, he demonstrates intellectual qualities that greatly influences the story. Even in the midst of a battlefield, he shows kindness and sincerity that provides hope to his friends. He often looks down to himself due to the fact that he is vulnerable facing the enemies, but everyone recognizes his contribution. Armin is an excellent strategist whose plans are often executed in military combats and audience may discover his significance as the story progresses. Quotes: “People who can’t throw something important away, can never hope to change anything.” “Clueless people who care about saving their own skin will unwittingly set humanity on a path towards self-destrucion!” Trailer with English subtitles

Angel Beats! is a 2010 action/fantasy anime series made by the famous game producers:
Key(featured works: Clannad, Kanon, Air, Little Busters!…) and
Aniplex(featured works: Fullmetal Alchemist, Gintama, Guilty Crown, Puella Mgi Madoka Magica…).
The original story is by Jun Maeda, who made a ton of storyboards/scripts for sad anime and dating adventure games(or gal-games for short…).
The anime series consists of 13 episodes, see episode list for Angel Beats!.
Story surrounds where the protagonist Otonashi, an ordinary young man, wakes up in a strangely quite world with zero memory. In there he meets Yurippu, who tells him that this is the world where all the dead enters. Yurippu is the leader of SSS, a team composed of young people who strives to against “God”. They believe that, by fighting the “Angel”, they can take over that world and ultimately, change their own fates. Otonashi then decides to join the SSS, and he finds out what they are really fighting against…
Under this=Review+Comments, Spoilers Alert!
This anime is all about stories of young people who had regretful lives.
Yuri had all her siblings killed by robbers, losing all her happiness from the world in 30 minutes.
Iwasawa killed by her drunken father, unable to continue her dream of singing.
Hinata fell into drugs after a defeated baseball game, where his hope was lost…
Yui born with a body of vegetable state, lived her entire life on the bed and died on the bed…
Yuzuru(Otonashi) died on a train accident, on the way of his Doctors’ licensing exam…
All these flashbacks have created a huge stream of feelings, at the same time well-integrated with the action aspects of the story.
The misery of each character brought lots of tears in my ears while watching this show. After watching it twice, the characters’ individual journeys have made me felt sympathetic towards to…their stories are vigorously tragic and are, most importantly, full of REGRETS. Otonashi, however, have lived a fulfilled life in which he dedicated and brought salvation to others. He entered the “after world” simply by accident, therefore creating changes in there. Otonashi suggests that, maybe the purpose of the after world they are placed in, is for them to complete their dreams and goals that they were unable to fulfill during their original lives. He also recognizes that the “Angel” is not “Angel” at all: she is just an ordinary girl name Kanade, and is like everyone else. With her aid Otonashi began to help everyone in the world reaching their dreams and goals, so they could depart from the after world and “reincarnate” –to begin a completely new life on Earth. In other worlds, if you have no more regrets, you will disappear from the after world.
Though Angel Beats, being a Key produced anime work, is indeed amazing, there are still quite some improvements to be made. First of all, we look at the conflicts aspect: WHO IS THEIR ENEMY? This can be an open-ended question…In the beginning the tension of the story focuses on the battles between the SSS and the Angel, lots of gunfights/sword battles going on. But turned out that Angel is not their enemy? Now what? Oh crazy shadows appear and trying to consume their souls. No problem, the team works so hard to get rid of them, and then there’s Kanade(angel) slaughtering the enemies like…I don’t know how to describe that…
Anyway, no epic final boss, just by taking down a room full of computers and you call that an exposition? Definitely debatable. At least to me, that is not of satisfactory.
Secondly, the romance aspect. The story has, too much, highlighting the past events and the setting itself(the secret of the after world?). Romance was suddenly introduced on episode 10(which is almost the end of the story) between Hinata and Yui all in a rush. Hinata confessed to Yui, AND THEN YUI VANISHED AWAY. Are you trying to create tragedy there, Maeda? I feel that there can be a better elongation in that episode…anyway, that was heart felt, but sort of generated a sense of discontent for me.
The most surprising transition in AB is probably the relationship between Yuzuru and Kanade. So Yuzuru, you are actually in love with the Angel! And it turns out that the heart donated after his death actually went to Kanade after(wait, so how did Kanade enter this world? I thought your heart should make some differences…)! This all happen to be revealed in the last episode…rushing the romance again. With all the feeling of longing, Yuzuru just happened to fleet into the after world, which he wasn’t suppose to…There are many things to complain about(laugh), but this part where Yuzuri addresses his feelings towards Kanade is very touching. It is very sad, from Kanade’s quote: “No, Yururu…If I say my true feelings now, I will probably disappear–“
And so did they get their #happily_ever_after? You tell me! The ending is left ambiguous…

I will finally shut up after some rankings:
Overall: 24.5/25=98%(under my biased view!)
This anime is enlisted in my personal anime hall of fame Top 3 😛
Last Note. is a producer who makes high spirited, intense songs characterized by its classic rock tunes. The songs have a happy ambiance and are at times upbeat.
Last Note. has shown high proficiency in including violin parts into his songs.
From the Vocaloid Wikia: http://vocaloid.wikia.com/wiki/Last_Note.
As described by the bio above, Last Note is a popular Vocaloid song composer/song writer since around 2010.
His music is very energetic, and often tied with amazing animation(thanks to his team!) in the original videos.
The swift pace of Last Note.’s music is his primary feature, in contrary to Kurousa P’s classical Japanese style and piano background. He often makes songs sung by GUMI, which brought my attention when I was first (self-)introduced to Vocaloid in 2010~11, unlike many other songs often tied with Hatsune Miku. It was a refreshing transition in my music journey 😀
For most of the songs below I will leave the ones that covered by my favorite fan singers. Original PV and/or with English subtitles may be found easily on Youtube or Niconico Douga.
The Last Effect(original PV). The first song of Last Note. that I listened to. This video involves MMD(Miku Miku Dance, for further information please consult http://mikumikudance.wikia.com/wiki/MikuMikuDance_Wiki) and is very well done for the fact that they simply used a free program available online.
Setsuna Trip(Wotamin cover)
Osanana Blue(original PV). This video is very lovely, for it portrays the importance of childhood friend(…who eventually transform into lovers 😡 )
Akatsuki Arrival(Clear and Dasuko covered, one of the best duets)
Love Hero(Wotamin cover, you will indeed be amazed by her again)
After-School Stride(Kano cover. Kano is famous of her extremely cute and smooth voice. )
And lots more……! Please explore yourself if you want to dive into the wonderful new world brought by Last Note. !!
Kurousa-P (黒うさP), also known as WhiteFlame, is a popular Vocaloid music writer. Prior to producing Vocaloid music, he had been an active amateur musician for quite some time. He debuted with the release of six Vocaloid songs in a single month, receiving high acclaim for his third song, “Shirayuki”( ～白雪～). His following work “Cantarella” became a hit, establishing his popularity. However, Kurousa-P is best known for Hatsune Miku’s mega-hit “Senbonzakura”, released in 2011.
p.s. Kurausa=”Black Rabbit” in Japanese 🙂
Kurousa P is my favourite song composer. When I was first introduced to Vocaloid in 2009, it was because of the few intriguing songs that got me crazily into it, including famous titles such as Melt(Supercell, or Ryo), When the First Love Ends(Supercell), From Y to Y(Jimmythumb P). All the above titles were Miku songs, so what really stood out was Cantarella, a Kaito song, which I first saw on a friend’s blog. I was amazed by the dance-music like style of this song, and was drawn into the fantastic atmosphere with the animation’s aid. Later on, Kurousa P’s works kept on impressing me. His song has a classical Japanese mood, varying in pace. Kurousa P always include very well piano sessions serving as the songs’ background music, which I really like. It is most profoundly revealed in Senbonzaukra(super fast piano music),and ReAct(a sorrowful yet tantalizing tone).
I’d save the talk and show actual stuff!
Senbonzakura-one of the most famous Vocaloid song that got over 5 million views on both Youtube and Niconico Douga
Senbonzakura covered by 96Neko and Pakota, the top cover of the respective song
A famous chorus
Another famous chorus among his works. I rank this higher than ACUTE.
The second most well done cover(in my opinion), next to 96neko and pakotas Senbonzakura
Original PV. this song, however, became famous through Luka;s version.
Another good cover! Clear, my favorite male singer pretty much did most of it 😀
Cantarella. Warning: incest included
Another cover done by Clear! This time he teamed up with Nero, who has very similar voice range like him.
A different version of Cantarella. The video is done with more effort as well!
Nero’s solo cover! you’ll love it!

This time, I will introduce some of my favourite titles, across anime, comics(manga), and light novels. You might find some names familiar 😛
1. Sword Art Online
The most popular series of novels for 3 years streak between 2011 and 2013. Its anime series, first season(including the SAO arc and the Elfheim arc) was also the most popular hit of the year as well. Story surrounds about how players entering into a vitual world of online game having to battle their way out, as they die when they lose the game…It is a very exicting piece. Action scenes are most well done. The battles are very well written that will catch your full attention. Its light novel proceeds into the end of the Underworld arc so far, as for volume 15. Highly recommended.
(novel personal ranking)
2.Spice and Wolf
Almost every single light novel includes campus love comedy, swords and magic, these types of generic elements. However, Spice and Wolf is a very unique piece, as it deals with…money! Right, money! Story surrounds where Laurence, a young travelling merchant who suddenly discovers Horo, the wise wolf goddess. Promising that he will take her back to her hometown, they start an everlasting trip and encounter many different challenges, regarding money, beliefs, and mostly human greed. The setting is somewhat medieval-like, though all the town names are made up. Supernatural elements are included, but the story focuses on primarily the use of monetary strategies and social techniques. Spice and Wolf amazingly brings the readers to a world that other light novels cannot. A very well-done piece. Its released anime series are also worthwhile to watch 🙂
3.Sakurasou Pet na Kanojo
I have written a review prior to this, but I must bring this up again. Sakurasou is a very powerful piece, that will touch your heart by illustrating the everyday ups and downs of the young people in the story. It is a campus-romance-comedy piece, runs on a light pace but turns drastically emotional throughout the story. My favorite light novel of all-time(reading it for the third time now!). I strongly recommend this title. For those of you who like the visual, the anime series is great(25 episodes in the first-hopefully not last-season).
Clannad consists of two seasons, each around 25 episodes long. Two episodes of spin-offs with alternative ending on top to those. This is one of my favorite title, definitely goes to all-time top 3. Genre is campus/romance. Plot summary: a high school boy, Tomoya, who hates and are despaired of everything, meets the girl Nagisa. From here, his life is changed. Trying to help Nagisa in her school life, Tomaya ends up making more friends and eventually comes to an understanding of his own past and the reality of happiness. The first season may seem too slow and irrelevant to the conclusion, but you will be rewarded once you hit into to core part of season two(Clannad After Story). Remember to keep a box of Kleenex with you while you watch those sad episodes!
2.Phantom ~Requiem of the Phantom~
A 2009 anime consists of 26 episodes. The protagonist, a young boys, is kidnapped in the U.S while having a grad trip. His memory is erased, and later trained to become a killer. Along with another killer, Ein, he gets a new name of Zwei and begins the life as a total different person. Throughout the story he will be making decisions and encountering powerful opponents that drastically change his life. It is a urban tragedy, with a little aspect of fantasy regarding shooting skills(the reason why they are called “Phantoms”). The story line is mostly engaging. You will change your view on life by its powerful moral ideas, while enjoying the well-established suspense. A very well-done anime series, recommend to those who love gunfight scenes, gang stories, and tragedies.
1.Natsume’s Book of Friends
Natsume is a boy who can see all the “yokai”, or spirit-form ghosts. He discovers that, his deceased grandmother Reiko was a powerful sorceress. She used her might to conquer different yokai’s, and collected their names in the “Book of Friends”, which is passed on to Natsume. Now, all the yokai’s who had their names written in the Book are going after him, so he ought to “return” their names to them. Meanwhile, he will experience lots of different things, including his emotional evolution and his changing relationship with friends and his family. The genre is mostly fantasy/campus. A very unique story that embed the element of supernatural into such an emotional and heart-felt story. Very impressive.
This collection of reviews is based on primarily personal opinion. If any error presents, or if my words contradict to your thoughts, please be free to comment below or contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will be happy to discuss with you!
1.Toki no Akuma to Mitsu no Monogatari(The Demon of Time and Three Stories)
Genre: fantasy, romance
Year of release: 2013
Three different stories correlated to each other, all about the regrets one has made in life. Stories revolve around the “Demonic Fruit”, which the person is tempted and eats such thing will be cursed and eventually dead. The “Sand of Time” and the “Time Devil”, however, will become the salvation for these desperate people who seek for so. A very touching piece with heart-felt story line. Possibly an one-shot and not going to be serialized, but very good in terms of 1-volume story quality as a novel.
2.Hataraku, Maou-Sama!(Work hard, Mr.Demon King!)
Genre: comedy, fantasy
Year of release: 2011
The demon king Maou Satan was defeated in the demonic world. At the edge of his struggle, he somehow tele-ported to the contemporary Japan with his servant and started a new life as a part-time worker at McDonald’s. In there, he will undergo a very different experience trying to live without magics and spells, but with hard-work and monetary wisdom(laugh). A very funny story recommended to cheer yourselves up!
3. I’m a Royal Tutor in my Sister’s dress
Genre: comedy, romance
Sherlock, an ordinary 18-year-old boy has a genius twin sister. One day, his sister escape while the kingdom summoned her to become a royal tutor. Without any choice, Sherlock then is forced to disguise as his twin sister in order to save himself from being executed. As the story progresses, internal conflict regarding his male nature vs. female adaptation, and external conflicts regarding relationships(LOL) will bring you the funniest romantic comedy you can ever imagine. Highly recommended. Only concern is the author’s updating speed.
4.Tensai Ikkyū ‘s Unwillingly Excellent Reasoning
Genre: mystery, comedy, fantasy
Year of release: 2012/2013(need verification)
A side story of Ryugajo Nanana, as of Scientific Rail-gun to Magical Index.
Tensai is a little girl who dreams to become a great detective. One day while doing choirs, she discovers a book containing a seal of devil, and eventually unseals it. The devil unrestrained, offers her an extraordinary game in which she has to solve crime scene dilemmas back and forth by travelling in time…
An interesting piece that has unique setting different from the majority of all light novels. Fantasy is well blended with its detective element, as well as those round characters embedded with amusing personalities. A potential award winner when more volumes come out.
Year of release: 2009
Misaki, a student in an ordinary grade 9 class died miserably in that year. From there on, the classes in the following years were cursed, and many sacrificed as a result…Now, Koichi and Mei enters another year of curse, and they will discover the truth about their destiny…
A well- done thriller piece that was also released as an anime series and became very famous because of how scary it was. Its original novel was as good, offering a super terrifying alternative for you to read. Recommend to 15+ as some violence is included. A very good choice for those who like scary stories.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magika, in this article I will call it Madoka for short) is a 12-episode long 2011 anime series produced by Shaft and Aniplex. Three volumes of manga spin-offs were published in 2011. A PSP game, novels, magazine, and three films(where two of them recapping the anime series, and the third having its own original story) were also released. Madoka Magica is the anime work that has won the most animation award for all-time, including the two anime awards at Kobe and Tokyo, with the addition of Paris World Animation Award. Some other records of Madoka include the most view counts on Internet(1 million), best-sold anime Blue-Ray DVD(top three are all from Madoka) and the top sell DVD(including two episodes per DVD) upon its first week of release(54, 000 sold in Japan).
The story of Madoka Magica surrounds where an ordinary junior high school girl Madoka discovers that, a girl from her dream, Homura, suddenly appears in her life. She and other characters introduce that, in the world Madoka lives in, there are these mystic creatures called “Witches” which preys on human weakness. “Puella Magi”, or magical girls, are the ones who fight against witches. In order to become a Puella Magi, one will have one of her wishes granted. As the story progresses, Madoka will discover deeper truth about the real price of becoming a magical girl through the story of her best friend-Sayaka, two veteran Puella Magi-Mami and Kyoko. The genre of Madoka Magica is predominantly fantasy, with some campus, romance, and tragedy elements well-blended with the theme.
Madoka Magica has a few features, and one of them is the cute art style they use for the anime. When you hear the word “magical girls”, you might think it’s gotta be some sort of adorable, relaxing, or even a little childish anime I’m talking about here. NO, YOU’RE WRONG. THIS IS NOT SAILOR MOON. The story of Madoka will start to flip your world starting from its third episode(please, watch it from the first episode…). The story can be exceptionally dark and sad to many people, and yet it is the attractive part of this anime. Its use of animation techniques are unique as well. Obviously, it does not get all the audience simply by throwing epic computer effect or moe-style drawing into its work. What’s special about Madoka is that it has a very strong story, strong character developments, an interesting setting, well-done OST and music, and most importantly, theme regarding friendship, hope, and morale.
battle scenes in Madoka are done in a stylish way
The third Madoka movie. It is also played in Edmonton Cineplex in December 2013!

A MAD video with fan singer’s cover for Madoka’s opening theme song “Connect” (WARNING: MINOR SPOILERS)
I won’t be blurring lot of words commenting on this anime like I did for other reviews(laugh), but really, Madoka is one anime series you HAVE to watch–to my highest recommendation!
WestJet company insists that its holiday stunt that is going viral this week was not actually intended to be a commercial in disguise. In the video, which surpassed 15 million views on Thursday, November 12, 2013, the airline hatches an elaborate holiday surprise for more than 250 travelers heading to Calgary on flights from Toronto and Hamilton.
WestJet customers are seen stumbling upon a video kiosk that connects them with a blue-suited Santa Claus, who asks what they would like for Christmas once they scanned their boarding passes. A family asks for a big TV, a boy wants an Android tablet, and one man asks for socks and underwear — which he will come to regret. WestJet staff then scramble to buy the gifts to fill those requests in Calgary shopping centers – like Cross Iron Mills which is featured in the video, which are wrapped and delivered via a luggage carousel in Calgary.
The video was presented to McNally High School students by some teachers this week and it really made the students, who have seen the video, felt mix emotions – more of like a happy and sad emotion. Whatever the purpose of the company by making this video, it does not really matter, as long as they are spreading love and happiness.
Just a tip for everyone, if they ask you what you want, tell them the thing that you really want for Christmas this year because who knows if that person asking you is a WestJet staff.

It is almost here. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel for Suzanne Collins Hunger Games is coming to theaters on November 22, 2013, more than a year after Hunger Games was released. Here’s a short summary on what to expect on the movie.
If you haven’t seen the first movie yet, I suggest you to watch it first before watching this movie since this movie is a sequel so it might not be a good choice to watch this movie first before the first one. Here’s the gist of the first Hunger Games movie.
Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister’s place in the Hunger Games, a televised fight to the death in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are chosen at random to compete.
Lionsgate launches “Catching Fire” at approximately 4,100 domestic locations, most of which will have 8 p.m. screenings Thursday. Two months before it comes out, movie critiques and Hunger Games fanatics could not wait to see the movie. Last year, the stars of the Hunger Games and the movie itself garnered a lot of awards from different ‘award’ organizations.
So what are you waiting for. Reserve your tickets now.
